There was a lot of feedback on the Huawei eKit getting started article, which is why we have also made further configurations and clarifications. We will add our experiences with the Huawei eKit here on an ongoing basis.
Through customer projects, we gained new experiences and identified limitations. We were also able to discuss the further development of the eKit solution with Huawei and have recorded these findings here.
Huawei eKit limitations
Our findings are summarised here:
-
There is no comprehensive eKit firewall, only some router models offer the option of ACLs and simple URL filters.
-
The WLAN PPSK function is only available together with the eKit WLAN controller, but not with the eKit cloud solution.
-
The eKit cloud solution does not yet support 802.1X.
-
DSVPN (Dynamic Smart Virtual Private Network) is not supported in the portal, it can only be configured via the CLI on eKit routers.
-
Currently, only the administrator role for the portal is supported. The role of a read-only user is currently under development and is expected to be implemented in July 2025.
- Only Syslog is currently supported as a monitoring or alerting function. An e-mail or SMS notification (e.g. if a device is no longer accessible) is currently under development.
Huawei eKit outlook
Huawei has drawn our attention to several planned innovations. It remains to be seen whether they will ultimately be implemented.
